Depend On A Miracle

“It always seems impossible, until it’s done.”
Nelson Mandela

When I was a little girl, I remember my Mom has a poster taped to the wall of our kitchen. On it was a little girl, about 6 years old who was going over a ski jump with a terrified look on her face. Above her were the words “I don’t believe in miracles. I depend on them!”

The wisdom of this quote was of course lost on me as a child, but as an adult, and especially as a SMG - these words have become my mantra.

So many times on my journey as a SMG I have felt backed into a corner with no visible way out. There have been times when I’ve felt too exhausted to take another step. Or I’ve had a situation with a client that I didn’t know how to resolve.

To get me out of these tight situations, I have learned to not just pray for help, but to depend on the Divine to deliver me the perfect solution. And often it comes about in the most unexpected way!

I have the perfect story to share with you that perfectly illustrates this.

Some years ago a friend of mine and his wife went on a vacation to Sedona in Arizona. While he was there he was determined to spend a day hiking the canyons - though his wife was less keen. Early one morning she dropped him off at the trailhead of a hike and they made arrangements to meet back there in 6 hours. You probably know what happened next. My friend’s exuberance at the astonishing beauty quickly took him off the path as he marveled at his discovery of red canyons and brightly colored lizards in the thick brush. Before long my friend was well and truly lost. And the weather had changed. Azul blue skies were now replaced with ominous storm clouds that poured down. He was low on snacks and drinking water and had no clue how to get back to where he started. After wandering around for a few more hours with no luck he climbed to the top of a ridge and looked around. Essentially there were two ways to go - either down by the river - or out across the ridgeline. About to choose the river, my friend suddenly noticed a huge stag had appeared in the brush not twenty yards ahead of him. It was looking right at him. My friend (who is not a spiritual person) explained it this way”
”something inside of me, I can’t explain it - told me I needed to follow that stag. He’d take a few steps and then stop and look back around at me to check I was coming. It was the weirdest thing. So I did follow him - and he took me right along the ridgeline, away from the river which is the direction I surely would have gone on my own. The stag would go on ahead and then stop and look back at me. I was scrambling up rocks and getting pretty badly cut up with thorns but I just kept going. Something told me I needed to keep following that stag. And sure enough, after about forty minutes the stag took one last look at me and then disappeared from view. After my initial panic subsided I realized the stag had brought me not to the beginning of the trailhead - but the beginning of the turn off to the trailhead. My wife, by this time had amassed a small army of people to search for me and it was only about five minutes before one of them found me. I have never been more relieved in my life … but if it wasn’t for that stag, and me listening to my intuition I would have surely followed the river and who knows what would have happened to me but I seriously doubt I would have made it out …”

Pretty amazing story right? Remember it the next time you feel despair. Ask your Higher Power for help, then stay alert for the signs - even the smallest ones, and listen to your intuition. As SMGs we don’t just believe in miracles - we DEPEND on them! You and God have got this!
